March 14, 2024: New York, NY: Artforum is pleased to announce longtime contributor and curator Tina Rivers Ryan as the magazine’s next Editor-in-Chief. Ryan will be the tenth editor to helm the publication in its 62-year history. Her first issue will be the summer edition.

An art historian by training, Ryan’s degrees include a PhD in Art History and Archeology from Columbia University and BA in the History of Art and Architecture from Harvard University. Since 2017 she has been a curator at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, where she has steered scores of acquisitions and organized several acclaimed exhibitions focused on artists working with video and digital art. Beyond her curatorial work, she has contributed essays and interviews to numerous magazines, books, and exhibition catalogues. In 2022, she received an Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant, and was also named to Artnet’s annual Innovators List.

“For decades, the editors at Artforum have ensured that this historic magazine has remained a trusted and indispensable resource for conversations about contemporary art and its role in the broader culture,” Ryan stated. “I look forward to extending their legacy by working closely with and supporting the artists, critics, and other members of the arts community who are expanding and deepening that conversation.”

“We could not be more excited for this next chapter of Artforum with Tina at the editorial helm. Tina is a brilliant writer and uniquely positioned to uphold the magazine’s reputation for publishing the highest quality long-form criticism, while also contributing to a dynamic vision of audience expansion via continued digital growth and live events,” said publishers Danielle McConnell and Kate Koza.

As Ryan’s tenure as editor begins, the leadership of Artforum would like to emphasize the magazine’s ongoing commitment to editorial independence. Hand-in-hand with this commitment are a set of established standards and protocols that center a rigorous editorial process, contextualization, and clear authorship, ensuring that the magazine’s fundamental integrity and editorial tenets are upheld.

"The ideas that inform artistic practice are the focal point of our work, and the magazine has long been, and will continue to be, a place in which activism and advocacy by artists and writers are proudly elevated,” stated McConnell and Koza. “We want to underscore that Artforum will remain an environment of dialogue and examination of the issues that face our world through the lens of art.”

These organizations are setting new standards and achieving remarkable milestones in all sectors of the economy. Alongside the World's 50 Most Innovative Companies, Fast Company recognizes 606 organizations across 58 sectors and regions.

Speaking on the news, Luminate CEO Rob Jonas said, “Over the past twelve months, Luminate has achieved a myriad of wins as we continue to grow and evolve our capabilities as the most trusted data and insights provider for the entertainment industry. The Beta launch of our new platform in the spring unveiled an intuitive new user experience that provides customers with the ability to extract more in-depth, expert-level insights than ever before. It marked a new chapter in our mission of building a reliable, centralized data hub across music, film, television, SVOD and more. That launch was followed by the introduction of key new offerings, including the Streaming Viewership (M) product, which measures minutes watched of original streaming TV series and films and our global music streaming data, inclusive of music engagement metrics from 50 different countries. Most recently, we acquired Quansic, a disruptive provider of music metadata solutions to improve our capabilities in this area. I am grateful to Fast Company for recognizing the exceptional work of the entire Luminate team.”

Luminate exists at the intersection of technology, media and culture, and serves as the entertainment industry's most trusted data partner. The company provides authoritative global data and insights across music, film and TV, managing more than 20 trillion data points that come verified from over 500 data partners. In addition to compiling the iconic Billboard Charts each week and confronting problems of data asymmetry in the film & TV SVOD industry, the company maintains an expansive set of diversity, equity, inclusion and sustainability metadata for Hollywood and provides audience research insights internationally.

The World's Most Innovative Companies stands as Fast Company's hallmark franchise and one of its most anticipated editorial efforts of the year.

Fast Company's editors and writers identified the companies driving progress around the world and across industries, evaluating thousands of submissions through a competitive application process. The result is a globe-spanning guide to innovation today, from early-stage startups to some of the most valuable companies in the world. Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies package is available online, as well as in-app form via iTunes, and on newsstands beginning March 26. The hashtag is #FCMostInnovative.

“Our list of the Most Innovative Companies is both a comprehensive look at the innovation economy and a snapshot of the business trends that defined the year,” said Fast Company editor-in-chief Brendan Vaughan. “We saw extraordinary innovation across the board in 2023, but we also saw a handful of clear patterns: the growing footprint and impact of AI, the triumphant return of live events, and great leaps forward in climate tech. We face daunting challenges on many fronts, but the solutions we celebrate in MIC give me plenty of hope about the future.”

Fast Company will host the Most Innovative Companies Summit and Gala on May 16. The summit features a morning and afternoon of inspiring content, followed by a creative black-tie gala including networking, a seated dinner, and an honoree presentation. Entertainment Data Giant Luminate Acquires Quansic, Leader in Global Music Artist Identification Services

The Deal Fuels Luminate’s Mission to Unify Data within the Music Industry across Streaming, Publishing and Artist Services

LOS ANGELES, CA – FEBRUARY 6, 2024 – Today, Luminate, the entertainment industry's most essential data partner, announced its acquisition of Quansic, a leader in global music artist identification services. Quansic, an international company operating out of France, maintains the world’s largest artist identification database which includes over 2.5 million ISNIs (artist identifiers) and 200 million asset identifiers. The deal was made as part of Luminate’s continued efforts to unify data for the entertainment industry, and more specifically due to Quansic’s expertise in the harmonization of metadata across record labels, streaming platforms, song publishers, and artist services within the music ecosystem.

Effective immediately, Quansic’s team will join Luminate, remaining under founder and chief scientist FX Nuttall. Nuttall, who has 20+ years of success constructing solutions to metadata discrepancies within music, most recently at YouTube, will report directly to Luminate CEO Rob Jonas.

Speaking on the announcement, Jonas said, “Quansic has earned the trust of many key leaders in the music data space, which is no surprise given the quality of the product and service FX and his team have built. We warmly welcome them into the Luminate family and look forward to collaborating and taking our music data offerings to the next level, especially as we close the gap between the disparate data that labels and publishers have historically relied on to drive their businesses forward.”

Nuttall added, “We are grateful to Rob and the Luminate team for seeing the value in what we’ve created at Quansic. Combining our unique data quality with Luminate’s scale, capabilities and influence is essential for advancing our vision to unify data within the music industry. We are eager to scale that work with Luminate and look forward to bringing unprecedented value to the music industry.”

Within Luminate, Quansic will continue operating its data enhancement services, which include improving the quality of identifiers within recording artists’ discographies and simplifying the process of claiming earned song royalties. Quansic’s clients will have the option to access Luminate’s industry-leading streaming and sales data. In addition to standalone products and services, Quansic’s data will be incorporated into Luminate’s new data platform, announced last year. The new platform is being launched in several phases over the coming months and currently serves record labels, artist management, music publishers and many other clients within and beyond the global music industry.

Raina Kelley Named Editor-in-Chief, VIBE

Los Angeles, CA, December 13, 2023: Today, VIBE announced Raina Kelley will take the helm as Editor-in-Chief. Kelley will oversee the editorial direction and vision of VIBE, working closely with its new sister brand Variety. This marks a new chapter for VIBE as part of Variety’s brand portfolio which includes Variety, Variety VIP and now VIBE. Kelley will report into Ramin Setoodeh and Cynthia Littleton, Co-Editors-In Chief, Variety, who will expand their scopes as Editorial Directors of VIBE. Kelley will be based in the New York office. She officially begins her role January 2, 2024.

“Vibe was founded to put hip hop and other forms of Black expression on the record as world-dominating art forms,” said Kelley. “It is my absolute pleasure and honor to step in as editor in chief of this venerable brand and to expand its coverage into other areas beyond music — everywhere hip hop is already ascendant.”

“We’re thrilled to welcome Raina to the Variety family,” said Setoodeh and Littleton. “Raina brings with her an incredibly rare set of skills and experiences across politics, sports and media. She will be instrumental in maintaining VIBE’s unique voice of authority and infusing her perspective into all of our initiatives. We look forward to VIBE’s exciting evolution ahead.”

Kelley was most recently the Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Andscape, a Black media platform dedicated to creating, highlighting, and uplifting the diverse stories of Black identity. She was responsible for the editorial direction, policies, strategy and oversight for projects undertaken by Andscape, a reimagination, expansion and diversification of The Undefeated. Kelley assumed this role in May 2021, after serving as The Undefeated’s managing editor for five years.

Before joining The Undefeated, Kelley served as deputy editor at ESPN The Magazine. She was a leading driver of ESPN’s long-form journalism across different platforms (print, digital and audio-visual) and worked closely with some of the company’s preeminent storytellers.

Kelley joined ESPN in May 2011 as a senior editor at ESPN The Magazine, responsible for the publication’s coverage of the National Football League, tennis, action sports, the Olympics and ESPN Enterprise Unit. She was a senior editorial leadership team member responsible for successfully merging ESPN’s print and digital content units under one umbrella.

Before ESPN, Kelley was a writer for Newsweek. She penned a column on American culture, usually on race, gender, and politics for the magazine, Newsweek.com, and Newsweek/Daily Beast. Kelley joined Newsweek in 2003 as an associate editor and left as a staff writer in 2011.
